Choose the correct response for each of the sentences.
SAMPLE CONVERSATION: Banking
Here is a sample conversation between a teller and a customer in a bank:
TOPIC: Opening a bank account
Teller: Good morning. How can I help you today?
Customer: Good morning. I'd like to open a checking account, please.
Teller: Certainly. Do you already have an account with us?
Customer: No, this would be my first one.
Teller: All right. May I see a valid ID and proof of address?
Customer: Yes, here's my passport and a utility bill.
Teller: Thank you. There's a minimum opening deposit of $100. Will that be okay?
Customer: Yes, that's fine. I'll deposit $200.
Teller: Great. Would you like a debit card and online banking access?
Customer: Yes, I'd like both, please.
Teller: Perfect. Please fill out this form, and I'll process your application.
Language & communications notes
Polite requests:
“I'd like to...” is more formal and polite than “I want to...”
Bank vocabulary:
checking account, deposit, debit card, online banking
Common question forms:
“May I...?” and “Would you like...?” are formal and professional.
Functional focus:
Making requests
Providing documents
Agreeing to terms (“That's fine.”)
