📚 Key vocabulary
intake — the process of registering and gathering initial medical information from a new patient
referral — a formal recommendation from one doctor to consult or be treated by another specialist or facility
differential diagnosis — the process of distinguishing one disease from others with similar symptoms
vital signs — basic measurements of the body's most essential functions: temperature, pulse, breathing rate, and blood pressure
blood pressure — the force of blood pushing against the walls of arteries, measured as systolic over diastolic pressure
symptom — a physical or mental feature that a patient experiences and reports, such as pain or fatigue
